Our Handcrafted Tallow

At Diestelmann Farms, we take pride in using the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients in eco-conscious packaging. Our luxurious whipped tallow is handcrafted in small batches with products containing as little as only two ingredients.

Long before shelves were lined with lotions and labels full of ingredients you can’t pronounce, people cared for their skin with what they had—and what worked. Tallow was one of those staples.

Rendered from beef fat, tallow was used by farmers, homesteaders, and families for generations. It moisturized hard-working hands, protected skin from wind and cold, and healed dry, cracked skin after long days outdoors. It wasn’t trendy—it was trusted.

We believe there’s wisdom in those old ways.

Tallow is rich in naturally occurring vitamins and fatty acids that closely resemble the oils our own skin produces. Because of that, it absorbs easily, nourishes deeply, and supports the skin’s natural barrier instead of fighting against it.

Using tallow is also about respect—for the animal, the land, and the tradition of using things fully and thoughtfully. It’s simple, honest skincare made from real ingredients, the way it used to be.

No fillers. No shortcuts. Just time-tested care for skin that does real work.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Tallow is a natural fat rendered from beef. It has been used for centuries in skincare because it’s rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K and closely resembles the natural oils in human skin.

  • Our tallow is grown right here on our family farm! As local and fresh as it gets!

  • Tallow is deeply nourishing, highly moisturizing, and gentle. Because its fatty acid profile is similar to our skin’s natural sebum, it absorbs well without clogging pores for most people- leaving skin feeling soft and not greasy.

  • Our products are made with high-quality, carefully rendered beef tallow. Depending on the product, we may also include simple, natural ingredients like avocado oil, jojoba oil, or essential oils. We avoid all synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and fillers.

  • Many people with sensitive skin, eczema, or dryness find tallow very soothing. However, everyone’s skin is different—always do a patch test first, even with natural ingredients.

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Tallow is naturally shelf-stable, but heat can soften or melt it.

  • When stored properly, tallow products typically last 6–12 months or longer. Because we don’t use preservatives, we recommend using clean hands or a spatula- taking care not to contaminate your tallow with bacteria or water.

  • Many parents use tallow products for babies and children, especially for dry skin or diaper areas. For infants, we recommend unscented versions and consulting a healthcare provider if you have concerns.

  • No—never. Our products are handmade and never tested on animals.

  • We aim to use simple, reusable, or recyclable containers whenever possible—because caring for the land matters, too. The majority of our products are stored in high quality glass jars, with cork liners, and bamboo lids.
